Dashboards are the end result of all the work that go into GravaMetrics they contain the insight that you are trying to give to your users. There are several ways to create dashboards but as with any business intelligence tool you should start with a question that you want answered and build the dashboard about answering that question. Be specific. Don't create a generic dashboard that contains all sort of odds and sods of information answer the question.
To create a dashboard you can:
- Click the Plus icon on the dashboards section of the home page
- Click the Create option from dashboards under the menu accessed from the top left of the page
- Click the plus icon on the dashboard list page
- Create a new datasource which will automatically take you to the dashboard create page
The dashboard create page will initially start with a large blank grid for you to place widgets onto:
The top part of this page has a toolbar with several options:
|Add Chart||Clicking this button will open up the Chart Editor and add the created chart to this dashboard.|
|Add Text||This will open up a markdown text editor and add this as a text widget to the dashboard.|
|Add Image||This will prompt for an image to be uploaded and add an image widget to the dashboard.|
|Customize||This will bring up the customization popup.|
|Share||This opens the share popup.|
On the right of the toolbar is the textbox for the dashboard name and the Save button. After any changes the dashboard must be saved, if the dashboard has not been created the save button will create the dashboard and will confirm this with a toast message.
A dashboard is a set of widgets. Each widget, once created, can be Resized, Edited, Copied or Deleted this is achieved through a toolbar and frame that are only shown in either create or edit mode:
The outer gray frame shows the outer edge of the widget the handle at the bottom right of the widget, indicated with a small arrow allows the user to resize the widget. The button allow the user to Edit / Copy / Delete the widget by clicking on them.
Please leave enough space within the widget for the contents to display. If the contents overflow the gray boundary the widget rendering may become distorted.
Widgets can be moved around the grid by left clicking anywhere on the widget apart from the bottom right resize handle or the buttons. The widget will turn slightly red when in move mode and with the mouse button still clicked moving the mouse the widget will follow.
There is a layout grid that the widget will follow and snap to. If you require more vertical space drag the widget down the screen and the grid will automatically expand.
Clicking on the Customize button on the Dashboard editor will show the Customize popup:
This popup allows the user to edit the following properties of the dashboard:
|Continuous Refresh||When selected allows the dashboard to update every X seconds. Good for TV display dashboard that will automatically update when new data is received.|
